#17 Oklahoma over Central Michigan (29-11)

The Sooners are spending the weekend in Michigan and got things started with a win over a tough Central Michigan team. New coach Roger Kish led his team to seven out of ten wins, including five bonus points. Unfortunately, two of the three losses came in ranked matchups that put a damper on the dual. The team now heads to the Michigan State Open for some early in the season tournament experience and a better look at the depth of the lineup. With that, here are the top five takeaways for me from this dual.

  • 125lbs: Conrad Hendriksen Dec. Sean Spidle (8-5)
  • 133lbs: #25 Jace Koelzer Tech Vince Perez (17-2)
  • 141lbs: #10 Mosha Schwartz Dec. Ja’Kerion Merritt (9-5)
  • 149lbs: #13 Corbyn Munson Dec. #14 Willie McDougald (4-2)
  • 157lbs: #15 Johnny Lovett Maj. John Wiley (16-6)
  • 165lbs: Cael Carlson Maj. #31 Tracy Hubbard (11-3)
  • 174lbs: #17 Alex Cramer Maj. #13 Tate Picklo (16-5)
  • 184lbs: #19 Guiseppe Hoose Maj. Adrien Cramer (13-2)
  • 197lbs: #2 Stephen Buchanan Tech Cameron Wood (21-3)
  • 285 lbs: #14 Josh Heindselman Dec. Bryan Caves (21-4)

Transfers show out

Jace Koelzer, Cael Carlson, Guiseppe Hoose, and Stephen Buchanan all looked great in their Maroon and White debut, scoring two majors and two techs. The three point takedown impact was on display, as each wrestler dominated their opponents and won the overall takedown battle along with a number of turns. That doesn’t include if Antonio Lorenzo eventually joins the lineup later this season to make half the starting lineup joining this offseason….
