For Veterans Day this year, I thought I’d roll up some of our military-related content over the last year. There’s a unique intersection between the sport of wrestling and the military, and it’s interesting to see just how deep it is and how many lines it crosses. I hope everyone enjoys looking back at some of these.
LTC Brian Horvath is the recruiting commander for the state of Oklahoma and sees the connection between the sport and success in the Army. He and his team are working to link those together.
Westmoore’s Dalton Duffield is one of the top Greco wrestlers in the country and currently serves as a horizontal engineer while training with the Army WCAP.
Kevin Ward wrestled at Oklahoma State and now is the head coach at Army West Point. We talked to him about his program at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Duals last December.
Dax Hughes was a state finalist at Stillwater then joined the National Guard and Army ROTC at Oklahoma State. He later decided to walk on at OSU. I caught up with him this summer to talk about Basic Training and the transition to wrestling at OSU.
Payton Thomas won a state title last summer for Moore and is currently attending NAPS(Naval Academy Preparatory School) as he prepares to wrestle for the Naval Academy next year.
We thank every one of our Soldiers and Servicemembers for their support and for everything you do for our country.
