Over Five-Hundred Girls Compete at Sand Springs on Saturday

On Friday and Saturday, over five hundred girls competed in the Sand Springs Girls’ Tournament at Clyde Boyd Middle School across the Junior High and High School divisions.

Westmoore got out to a lead in the High School division before a barrage of bonus points from the Chanute, Kansas girls in the medal matches put them out in front. They held on to win the tournament and Westmoore finished in second.

There were some great, and very high-profile, finals matches in this tournament. Kelcie Avallone and Mariah Robbins had a wild back-and-forth match that ended in a fall for Avallone at 110, Abbie Rivero of Stillwater went toe-to-toe with state champion Hannah Lopez at 115, and Elizabeth Cope got a late takedown vs. Kylie Freeman to win 140.

We spoke with most of the tournament champions after their wins and you can watch each of the interviews, including most of the finals matches at the links below.
