Mat Moments

Another incredibly busy weekend of wrestling saw teams competing in at least six in-state tournaments and four out of state tournaments.  There were, of course, numerous outstanding performances, but special recognition goes to Choctaw’s Peyton Hand for winning the Reno Tournament of Champions and the six individual champions at the Kansas City Stampede (Edmond North’s Bella Williams and Taylor Ellis Hishaw, Chris Kiser – Ponca City, William Heger – El Reno, KJ Evans – Heritage Hall and Ethan Teague – Tuttle.  Hand, a 3X state champion, somehow went into the tournament unseeded but went 5-0 with 5 falls including a 1st round fall over the number 3 seed and then won the title with a 50 second fall in the finals over the number one seed.

Lawton Mac won the 20 team Duncan Invitational while Cascia Hall crowned six champions to win the 11 team Norman Tournament.  Elgin destroyed the 16 team field at the Max Dipple Memorial Tournament, winning by 122 points over host Weatherford.  Berryhill won the Joe Cole/Cleveland Classic with a 31 point win over 2nd place Pawnee.  Two teams won their own tournaments with Coweta winning their tournament by 32 points over 2nd place Sallisaw and Claremore winning the Donnie Morgan Memorial Dual Tournament.

Perry earned a 2nd place finish to be the highest placing team from Oklahoma in the 30 team Bring the Hammer Tournament in Cabot, AR while Tuttle’s 4th place finish led the eight Oklahoma teams in the always tough 67 team Kansas City Stampede.

In girl’s tournaments, Harrah won the Norman Tournament by 58 points over 2nd place Putnam City.  McLoud more than doubled 2nd place Sand Springs to win the Joe Cole/Cleveland Classic and Owasso won the Coweta Tournament by 11 points over 2nd place Pryor.  Cache earned a 3rd place finish to lead the Oklahoma teams at the Cabot Tournament while Edmond North had an impressive showing in placing 3rd at the Kansas City Stampede.

All of the tournament results can be found in the Tournament Results section on the home page of the OWrestle website.
