On a day when Norman, Oklahoma was absolutely buzzing with excitement, the Sooners wrestlers got what proved to be a historic sports day started for Oklahoma University. The Oklahoma Sooners wrestlers hosted the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday, November 23 at the McCasland Field House in a dual that was free to the public, and they showed everyone that they have a very solid team this year.
125: Antonio Lorenzo (OU) 3-2 D over (2) Jore Volk (WYO)
Antonio Lorenzo got the Sooners started off with a major bang with a huge upset over 2024 Big 12 champion and NCAA tournament All American Jore Volk, who came into the weekend ranked number 2. After a first period that did not see any scoring, Volk started the second period on bottom and earned a point for an escape. The rest of the period was full of action and solid defense from both wrestlers, but no scoring. Lorenzo made a very savvy decision with his choice to start the third period, electing to start the third period neutral, rather than going underneath the All American. Lorenzo got in on a deep shot in the first 30 seconds of the third period and was initially awarded a takedown, but it was overturned after a challenge by Wyoming coach Mark Branch. Lorenzo did a great job of keeping his head in the game, however, and went back to work down by a point with less than 90 seconds remaining. With about a minute remaining, Lorenzo got in on a great single leg and finished the shot with less than a minute on the clock. After a flurry on the edge, Volk very nearly scored a reversal, but Lorenzo managed to scramble off the mat, giving up a 1 point escape rather than a 2 point reversal. Volk threw the kitchen sink at Lorenzo in the final 30 seconds, but Lorenzo remained in solid position and held on for the upset victory to set the tone for the Sooners early.

133: (18) Cleveland Belton (OU) 9-4 D over David Saenz (WYO)
Cleveland Belton made his dual debut at McCasland Field House with a strong decision victory. After a first period that saw a lot of shots and scrambles, but no points, Belton chose bottom to begin period number two. Belton scored a quick reversal and gave up an escape to take a 2-1 lead early in the second. With 42 seconds remaining in the period, Belton hit a pancake pull-by to get Saenz onto his hip and nearly scored back points, but had to settle for a 3 point takedown, and a ride out to finish the period with a 5-1 lead. Belton rode long enough to start the third period to get riding time over a minute before Saenz got an escape, however, right away Belton hit a disappearing double when Saenz went to tie up and scored a quick takedown to push the lead to 8-2. After letting Saenz go, Belton gave up a point for stalling on the edge of the mat, and held on to finish a 9-4 decision victory.
