After a series of disappointing finishes at the NCAA tournament the last few years, including a 10th place finish a year ago, #3 Oklahoma State recruited a new Head Coach, superstar David Taylor, and pulled several All Americans out of the transfer portal to reload the roster and attempt to contend for a team trophy at this year’s NCAA tournament set to start Thursday morning in Philadelphia, PA.
The changes have paid off as the Cowboys went 13-1 in duals this year, only losing to #2 Iowa, and bringing home 1st Place team trophies at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas and Big XII tournament.
OSU qualified every weight except 133 and will be taking nine guys to compete. Based solely on seeding, OSU is slated to finish 3rd with 68 points, slightly behind Iowa at 70 and ahead of Nebraska at 62 and Virginia Tech at 60.
Of course seeding matters little and the guys will have to wrestle well to keep up that lofty goal – just ask Iowa, who lost 2nd place at the Big 10 tournament to Nebraska a couple weeks ago. Here’s what the first round matchups look like.
125: Troy Spratley (20-4) drew the 7 seed and will face 26 seed Keyveon Roller (14-7) (UVA). Roller is a RS Sophomore and this is his first NCAA qualification. They have never wrestled before and he has not really had any notable wins this year. This should be easy bonus points for Spratley.
