Legacy of the Huskies: Celebrating Edmond North’s Wrestling Seniors

Senior Night.  Happening in gyms across Oklahoma in the next few weeks.  A fun night for the seniors, parents and fans and a great way to recognize and celebrate the wrestlers that have given so much to their school.  An incredible group of seniors for Edmond North will be recognized at Senior Night tonight as the Huskies host Yukon at the Siberian Gym.  Not only is it Senior Night, the dual pits brothers Andy Schneider and Joe Schneider competing for the bragging rights and the coveted Schnieder Bowl Champion trophy.

The Schnieder Bowl Champion trophy record is 11-2 in favor of Andy.

Edmond North has an impressive 13 seniors to be recognized, and even more impressive, nine of them started as freshman and with what must be a state record, all nine competed at the State Tournament, with six of them winning state medals.  As shown below, they have continued to have tremendous success not only on the state level, but on the national level as well.

Seniors for Edmond North this year include Brayden Belford, Christian Belford, Hunter Hollingsworth, Brayden Lucas, Talon McCollom, Jude Randall, Layton Schneider, Ricky Thomas, Oscar Williams, Hudson Hackbarth, Cannon Little, Shahzor Karem, and Jaiden Rutledge.  

Under the leadership of head coach Andy Schneider and assistant coaches David James, Mike Arnold, and Boo Lewallen, this group of seniors, which most of them have been in Edmond schools since kindergarten, look to join the 2013 Huskies as State Champions and Dual State Champions.

The accolades continue as ten of the seniors’ plan on wrestling in college with seven of them already signed to wrestle.  Williams has signed with Maryland, Schneier and McCollom with the Air Force Academy, Thomas, Hollingsworth and Randall with OU and Lucas with Ouachita Baptist.  Both Belford’s and Hackbarth have plans to wrestle in college but are undecided on where they are going to school.

Part three of the three part series starts with what does it mean to be a senior on the Edmond North wrestling team, goals the last half of the high school season and goals going into their college career.

Mentioning just a few of the results over the past three years, show that these seniors have made their presence known in Oklahoma Wrestling.

  • State Tournament Runner-up in 2022 and 2023, 3rd in 2021
  • Dual State Runner-up in 2023, Semifinalist in 2021 and 2022
  • Regional Tournament Champions – 2021, 2022, 2023
  • COAC Conference Champions – 2021 and 2023, Runner-up – 2022
  • NWHOF Dual Classic Champions in 2022 and Runner-up in 2023
  • 2021-2024 Other Invitational Tournament Results: seven championships, five Runner-up, three 3rd Place
  • 2021-2024 Dual Record – 49-4, including regular season record of 45-1
  • 2021-2023 Total Individual Wins by nine that started as freshmen – 756 (756-174, 81% winning %)
  • 2021-2023: 20 state medals won including four individual state champions. 
  • 2021-2023: 13 Fargo All-American finishes, including one national champion.

While they have come so very close, missing from their impressive résumé are titles at the Dual State Tournament and State Tournament.  Based on results so far this season, including incredible performances at the NWHOF Dual Classic and the Geary Tournament, that may change come February.

At the NWHOF Dual Classic, they placed 2nd, falling to national prep juggernaut Wyoming Seminary, PA by tiebreaker.  The Huskies defeated CA powers Poway and Buchanan and with those wins, proclaimed by many as the #1 public school in the nation.  They crowned nine champions, with 13 placers to win the coveted Geary Tournament title by 109 points over 2nd place Stillwater.   

2021

Since 2021, seniors Brayden Belford, Christian Belford, Hunter Hollingsworth, Layton Schneider, Brayden Lucas, Jude Randall, Talon McCollom, Oscar Williams, and Ricky Thomas have combined to make 23 trips to the State Tournament, winning 20 state medals, including four individual state titles.  They have also earned a remarkable 13 Fargo All-American finishes including one national title.

If not for injuries, the numbers would be even higher as Lucas, Randall and Thomas all missed most of their sophomore years with injuries, while Christian Belford suffered the same fate his junior year.
