High School Wrestling Showdown: Oklahoma’s Top Performers in the Fall Brawl

With two big tournaments coming up later in the month, wrestlers from Oklahoma made the trek to Kansas City, Mo. To get some work in.

Staley High School hosted the annual Fall Brawl Folkstyle wrestling tournament last Saturday for high school boys, which featured wrestlers from the Midwest and Rocky Mountain areas.

Some wrestlers were preparing for the Super 32 Challenge. Others were gearing up for the Preseason Nationals Tournament. 

There were even a few who wanted to get in work so they could prepare to compete in both of those large tournaments. Some sprinkled in just get a little bit of work before the high school season.

The Fall Brawl Tournament gave competitors a chance to face off against some opponents they may have not faced before. In the high school boys class, there were 14 weight classes. Owrestle.com breaks down the results of the top Oklahoma finishers, who finished at least in sixth place or better, in each weight class.

106: Eric Casula of Westmore High School won his first two matches handily before needing overtime to defeat Trusten Lee Douglas of Yukon in the semifinals. He then went on to take down Oscar Gauna of Kansas 12=2 in the finals to take first place.

“I am getting ready for Super 32 and cleaning some things up,” Casula said. “I am working on my smoothness and being patient out there.”

113: Chickasha’s Jarrett Patty pinned his way to the semifinals there he matched up with Nebraska’s Kiernan Mink. In that bout, he edged his opponent 3-2 and then went on to beat Nebraska’s Zaiyahn Ornelas 6-3 in the championship bout to earn a place atop the podium.

“I feel like I did a good job and did enough to get the job done, but there is always room for improvement,” Patty said. 

132: Tyler Misenheimer of Blanchard took fifth place after going 6-2 in his bracket and he ended his date with a 11- major decision win against Kamden Hooper of Odessa, Mo.

138: Barling’s Alex Reed made it to the semifinals following a 3-0 win against Kansas’ Evan Veilhauer, but he fell to Mason Petersen of Nebraska to move to the consolation bracket. From there, he won his final two matches, ending with a first-period pin of Kansas’ Hagen Blanck in the third-place bout.

144: Chickasha’s Dylan Bratt earned pins in his first three matches and rolled to a 12-3 major decision victory against Lake Waters of Odessa, Mo. To set up a finals match with Andrew Manley of Seneca, Mo. He fell in that one 4-3 as he took second place.

“I should have done more on offense,” he said of his finals match. “I was flat footed. I should have finished better.”

150: Trae Rios of Moore took fifth place after finishing 5-2. He fell in the consolation semifinals by pin to Independence, Missouri’s Colby Gray but rebounded for a fifth-place match win as he pinned Benjamin Smith of Arkansas in 35 seconds.

215: Gavin Rich of Blanchard finished in third place after he fell to Rylan Kuhn of Missouri by pin in the semifinals but he bounced back to win his last two matches, including a pin in 1:13 against Texas’ Parker Barrow in the consolation finals.
