Welcome to the first release of Mat Moments.  This weekly article will take a look at recent action on the mat, highlight some upcoming duals and tournaments as well as report on anything new in Oklahoma high school wrestling.

Catching up with college signees first, listed below are seniors who recently signed to wrestle in college.  Please contact me (address listed below) for anyone I left out and I will include them in next week’s article.

  •  Cole Brooks (Collinsville) – Wyoming
  • AJ Heeg (Stillwater) – OSU
  • Cael Hughes (Stillwater) – OSU
  • Sam Schmidt (Tuttle) – Ouachita Baptist
  • Sam Smith (Stillwater) – OSU
  • Payton Thomas (Moore) – Naval Academy
  • Oklahoma had a great showing in the recent national team rankings with four teams ranked including three teams in the top 17.  Listed below are the top five teams and the Oklahoma teams in the rankings.

1 – Blair Academy, NJ
2 – Wyoming Seminary, PA
3 – Stillwater
4 – Delbarton, NJ
5 – St. Edward, OH
13 – Edmond North
17 – Bixby
44 – Tuttle

An impressive number of wrestlers showed that they are ready for the season to start as over 900 high school wrestlers competed in open tournaments held at Union, Southmoore, Midwest City and Guthrie last weekend.  Numbers were not available from the Guthrie Tournament, but a total of over 1,700 wrestlers in grades 6-12 competed in the three tournaments listed below.
