Oklahoma high school graduates turned in strong performances in last weekend’s NAIA and NJCAA National Tournaments, earning 12 All-American honors, including five runner-up finishes.
Competing at the NAIA National Tournament, OCU had five All-Americans, including three from Oklahoma to earn a 3rd place finish, which is the highest national tournament finish for the program. John Wiley and Tate Picklo (both from Mustang) earned runner-up finishes, with Heritage Hall’s Omari Smith, coming in unseeded, but earning a 3rd place finish at 197 lbs.
Competing at the Men’s NJCAA National Tournament, three wrestlers that graduated from Oklahoma high schools earned runner-up finishes, with six others earning All-American honors. Cowley, KS, with a team made up of almost entirely of Oklahoma wrestlers and coached by Blackwell native, Justice Circle, had five All-Americans to earn a program best, 7th place team finish.
Cowley’s All-Americans were national runners-up Colt Collett (Checotah) and Evan Rodriguez (Broken Arrow), with David Sample (Salina) placing 4th, and Jaxon Trotter (Sand Springs) and Jason Osgood (Blackwell) both placing 7th. In an all Oklahoma semifinal, Collett won by tech fall over Western Wyoming’s Stockton Allen, a Stillwater HS graduate. Allen bounced back from that loss to earn a 3rd place finish.
Berryhill Kyler Tabor, wrestling for Labette, KS earned a runner-up finish at 149 lbs. Tabor pinned the number one seed in the semifinals to advance to the finals. NEO had two All-Americans with Logan Crawford (Cache), placing 4th and Tyler Misenheimer (Blanchard), placing 8th.
