Two thrilling down to the wire finishes at the Class 6A regional tournaments set up what promises to be an incredible State Tournament. Bixby held off Stillwater in a tight battle to win the East Regional, while Edmond North staged a big second day comeback to win the West Regional over Mustang.
Bixby and Stillwater battled neck and neck throughout the tournament with Bixby’s bonus point advantage helping them hold off Stillwater and win the title by just four points. Bixby had 24 falls in the tournament, compared to 18 falls for Stillwater, and that 12 point advantage helped Bixby earn their 6th regional title.
In the West Regional, Mustang put 10 wrestlers in the finals, compared to seven for Edmond North to give Mustang a 28.5 lead after day one. Edmond North put five in the consolation finals to trail by eight points going into the medal rounds. The Huskies went 11-2 in the medal rounds, including a perfect 7-0 in the finals to win their 6th straight regional title by 6.5 points over Mustang. It was Edmond North ninth regional title overall.
Edmond North, coached by Andy Schneider, qualified 13 for the State Tournament, including seven regional champions. Winning regional championships were Turner Ross, Cale Richardson, Sawyer Hackbarth, Brooks McCollom, Tommy Verrette, Garrison Sartain, and Joseph Jeter. Earning 3rd place finishes were Will Deutschlander, Britton Lamon, and Maddox Gregg, with Jacob Kinzer and Luke Borror placing 4th, and Bo Courtney adding a 5th place finish.
Bixby, coached by Ray Blake, will be sending 12 to the State Tournament, including five regional champions. Winning regional titles were Ty Walters, Isaiah Jones, Israel Borge, Seth Hernandez, and Redmond Lindsey with Gabe Blankenship, Jesse Justice, and Griffin Goins all earning runner-up finishes, Rhys Novosad and Colton Treat placing 3rd, and Cayden Scott and Chase Dyer adding 4th place finishes.
Stillwater, coached by Ethan Kyle, had seven regional champions and qualified 11 wrestlers for the State Tournament. All 11 placed in the top three, which means they don’t have to compete in any of Thursday’s wrestle-in matches unless they opted to the 4th place position on the bracket. Regional champions were Jett Kline, Ignacio Villasenor, Eric Casula, Bryar Hooks, Jaedan Adams, Isaac Sensintaffar, and Luke Hamiti, with Julio Aguirre and Dian Fix earning runner-up finishes, and Griffin Sensinaffar and Calan Manly placing 3rd. In 2021, Stillwater finished 2nd at the regional tournament, but claimed the state title the next week.
Broken Arrow, coached by Rodney Jones, had three in the finals and qualified 13 for the State Tournament. Jake Miller won a regional title, with Titan Hix and John Broehl placing 2nd, Gannon Wilson, Hunter Knox, Diesel Pedersen, and Colton Barlow placing 3rd, Rudy Rojas, Matthew Mann, and Brock McKnight placing 4th, and Tyler Rock, Evan Notley, and Jordan McKinney placing 5th. Broken Arrow tied Edmond North for most state qualifiers.
Mustang, coached by Will Delk, qualified 12 for the State Tournament, with 10 regional finalists, including four regional champions. Van Smith, James Anderson, Coleman Iker, and Theron Davis won regional titles, with Mason Hoffman, Easton Pierce, Jace Reed, Trusten Douglas, Levi Dicksion, and Jaren Peterson earning runner-up finishes, and Hank Bullard and Max Baca placing 5th.
Yukon, coached by Joe Schneider, qualified 10 for the State Tournament. Destry Lujan won a regional title, with Rawlie Schultheis and JJ Schultheis placing 2nd, Jaxon Kennedy, Aaron Jellison, Deshawn Tate, and Xavier Francis placing 3rd, Joshua Borbely and Aaden Beavers placing 4th, and Rooney Lafever placing 5th.
An interesting development at the regional tournament was a move up in a weight class for Bixby’s Israel Borge to set up a possible state finals match between two of the top wrestlers in the nation. Borge, ranked 3rd in the nation at 138 lbs. by MatScouts moved up to 144 lbs. to set for a likely clash with Edmond North’s Tommy Verrette. Borge, was a 2025 Utah state champion, NHSCA national champion, and Super 32 runner-up.
Verrette, a Cornell signee, will be going for his fourth state title, winning two in Colorado before winning an Oklahoma title last year. Verrette won a Greco national title at Fargo in 2025, to become a 3X Fargo champion and 5X All-American.
The two met at the Ironman Tournament in December, 2024 with Borge staging a comeback to defeat Verrette.
