For the second year in a row, the Girls All-State Dual came down to the final matches with Tahlequah’s Jordan Bread and Union’s Azreal Smith both earning 1st period falls to give the East team an exciting 36-34 win in Wednesday’s All-State Wrestling Duals taking place at Catoosa High School.
Taking place in the warm Catoosa gymnasium, approximately 1,200 fans enjoyed the entertaining back and forth dual that had four lead changes before the East pulled out the victory with the fifth and final lead change in the final match of the night. Of course, the final score is not what everyone will remember. What is the more important part of the evening is that the girls earned the honor of competing in the All-State dual and representing their high school one more time on the mat.
A coach was also making his final high school appearance as Bixby’s Paul Mayfield coached the East team to the win. Mayfield was named the first men’s and women’s head coach at Murray State College in Tishomingo for the coming year. Brandon Smith coached the West Team.
The dual started at 105 lbs. with Tecumseh state champion Vivan Hayes taking on Moore’s Kylee Smith. Smith scored first getting an opening takedown and three-point near fall and still led 8-2 after the 1st period. Hayes battled back from the deficit with a 2nd period reversal and near-fall points. She completed the comeback in the 3rd period, reversing Smith to her back and getting the fall in 3:55 to earn six big team points for the East.
The two teams traded falls in the next two weight as Edmond North’s 2024 state runner-up Victorya Cox pinned Warner’s Rachel Torres in 0:55 at 110 lbs. and Stillwater’s 2024 state champion and 2025 state runner-up, Abigail Rivero pinned Newcastle’s Trinity Duran in 1:15 at 115 lbs.
Broken Arrow’s Jordan Todhunter used a 1st period takedown and 3rd period escape to defeat Norman North’s Coty Sessions by a 4-3 score at 120 lbs. Sessions made it a one-point match with a takedown of her own with 45 seconds left, but that was the final points scored as Todhunter held on for the win.
The West picked up falls in the next two weight to take an 18-15 lead. The 125 lb. bout was a repeat of the Class 5A state finals, as Cache’s Shiann Famero once again won by fall over Stilwell’s Josaline Blevins. Famero, a 4th place medalist in 2024, took a 6-0 lead before pinning Blevins in 4:26. Blevins was a 3X state placer and 2024 state champion for Stilwell.
The 130 lb. bout featured Blanchard’s 1X state champion and 3X finalist Lynn Horn and Catoosa’s state champion Frankie West. Horn, also a Fargo champion and runner-up, led 2-0 after two periods, before turning West early in the 3rd period and then locking up a cradle to get the fall in 4:17.
The East retook the lead when Jay’s Addie Dingsor won by fall in 2:22 over Little Axe’s Ainsley Jennings. Jennings scored the first takedown, but Dingsor came back with an escape, takedown and near fall points to lead 7-2 after one period. Dingsor’s fall put the East up 21-18.
Stilwell’s Adrianna Chronister extended the lead to 24-18 with an 11-5 comeback win over Cayden Buckaloo from Davis. Chronister, like teammates Hayes and Dingsor, gave up the first takedown but dominated the 3rd period to get the win. Chronister trailed 5-2 entering the 3rd period, but used a penalty point, reversal and two sets of near fall points to score nine unanswered points in the 3rd period to get the win.
Southmoore’s Serenity Vaughn got the West within two points with a 17-5 maj. dec. win over Tecumseh’s Trinity Rakestraw. Once again, the West struck first with Rakestraw getting the opening takedown, but Vaughn came back with a reversal and near fall points to lead 6-3 after one period. Vaughn stretched the lead to 10-3 and wrapped up the win with a beautiful headlock to take the 17-5 win.
Marlow’s Aleah Chase put the West in the lead with a fall in 2:56 over Glenpool’s Julia Smith. After a scoreless first period, Chase a 2X state placer and 2024 state champion, surrendered a takedown to Smith, but quickly got a reversal and getting the fall in 2:56.
Little Axe state champion Amelia Earhart didn’t waste any time in getting a fall in just 0:24 over Stillwater’s Raycye Fipps. With the fall, the West now led 34-24 with only two matches remaining. That was plenty for the East Team.
With boisterous teammates cheering them on, Tahlequah’s Jordan Bread and Union’s Azreal Smith quickly ended any suspense as Bread pinned Piedmont’s Brooklyn Waters in 1:25 to bring the East within four points.
Union’s undefeated state champion Azreal Smith had made a habit of quick falls during her illustrious career and she did it one more time in her final high school match, getting a quick takedown and getting the fall over Little Axe’s Emily McDaniel as the East celebrated the thrilling 36-34 win.
In boy’s action taking place alongside the girls event, the Large West team won 31-26 while the Small East team won 41-17.
