Oklahoma State Board of Regents Approved Renovations to Wrestling Room in June

During a meeting in June, the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural & Mechanical Colleges approved renovations to the current OSU wrestling room.

From the Meetings Minutes.

“G-5 Approval for renovations to Gallagher-Iba Arena and enter into a gift in kind for the same.”

“FAPF Committee Chair Walker said this Item is a request to renovate the existing wrestling area on the second floor of Gallagher-Iba Arena and to enter into a gift in kind for the same. After discussion of this Item with the OSU administration, the Committee acted to recommend Board approval. Regent Walker moved and Regent Franklin seconded to approve Item G-5 as presented in the OSU Agenda.”

“In-kind” gifts are typically non-monetary gifts. Thanks to some context provided from a reader, I was informed that facilities renovations are generally performed by Cowboys Athletic Facilities LLC and then gifted over to the University. So typically all of their facilities upgrades are described as “In-kind” gifts. It’s unclear when the renovations are to be completed. I’m not aware of any recent work, but if it was a small project, it’s possible, though unlikely, that they already have as this meeting took place around four months ago.

The timing of the approval is interesting. It falls around the time David Taylor was hired. It’s said that there was some back-and-forth in the negotiations between OSU and David Taylor before he accepted the job offer. One would assume that he may have asked for some upgrades as part of that negotiation.
