The Oklahoma State Cowboys came out and dominated the #2 Nebraska Cornhuskers Sunday afternoon in the 3rd place match at the National Duals Invitational sponsored by Paycom.  With the difference of $150,000 to the winner and $75,000 to the loser, there was a significant financial incentive to win this dual, however Nebraska was just too banged up to really give the Cowboys a team test.

Here’s how it looked:

(2/2) Troy Spratley (2-2) v. Alan Koehler (4-5)

Spratley came out guns a blazing after his last round loss to Dean Peterson (Iowa) and got two fairly quick takedowns before a turn to get the pin near the end of the 1st period.  RESULT: OSU 6-0

133 Ronnie Ramirez (1-1) vs. Kael Lauridsen (5-3)

A surprise entry here for Nebraska, Lauridsen is Nebraska’s usual 125 pounder, but Jacob Van Dee seems to be banged up.

Ramirez scored first and quickly cut Lauridsen for the 3-1 lead. Ramirez was quickly back on a shot, Lauridsen rolled, and appeared to get hurt in the scramble.

Lauridsen was able to continue, and because of the injury time, Ramirez got his choice and chose down.

Might have been a bad idea as Lauridsen was able to rid Ramirez out, building 48 seconds of riding time headed into 2d period.

Ramirez smartly chose to go neutral to start 2d. Neither guy did much during second and it ends 3-1, Ramirez. Lauridsen chose down in 3d, Ramirez cut him, making it 3-2, then was back in on a quick shot to get the take down and 6-2 lead.

Ramirez cut him again, making it 6-3. Lauridsen got in deep on a shot, but couldn’t quite finish and Ramirez finishes him off with a last second takedown winning 9-3. OSU 9-0.

141 (UR/20) Sergio Vega (4-0) vs. (2/2) Brock Hardy (7-1)

Unlike Vega’s upset of Nasir Bailey, the 1st period with Hardy was a scramble fest. Vega was able to finish at the end of the first, making it 3-0 .

Hardy chose down in 2d, Vega built about 30 seconds of RT before Hardy can escape (3-1). Vega got another leg and try as he might, Hardy wasn’t able to keep him from finishing making it 6-1.
