Girls Wrestling is alive and well in Cache, Oklahoma as the 5th Annual Wrestle Like a Girl Cache Invitational, once again shattered their record for the number of wrestlers competing in this prestigious tournament.
665 junior high and high school wrestlers from Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas competed in this year’s tournament. That is a 400% increase from the first tournament held in 2021! The first tournament had 165 wrestlers, increasing to 292 in 2022, and a massive increase to 489 in 2023, with 595 competing in 2024 and up another 70 wrestlers with 665 competing this year.
Garden City, KS won the 51-team high school tournament, with Westmoore earning the runner-up finish, followed by Azle, TX in 3rd, Del City finishing 4th, and Norman in 5th place. The high school Outstanding Wrestler Award, going to the champion with the most falls in the least time, went to Norman’s Claire Lancaster in the lower weights (5 falls in 10:20) and Caddo’s Gage Vaughn in the upper weights (5 falls in 7:22).

Shawnee won the 43-team junior high tournament, with Yukon, Ponca City, Moore, and Altus rounding out the top five. The junior high Outstanding Wrestler Award went to Noble’s Peyton McElfresh in the lower weights (4 falls in 3:14) and Shawnee’s Autumn Belvin in the upper weights (6 falls in 8:15).
There was a three-way tie for the fastest fall in the high school tournament, with Elk City’s Kenzie Manning, Garden City’s Mary Condo and Del City’s Serinity High, all recording falls in 11 seconds. In the junior high tournament, Southmoore’s Brinley Clay got the fastest fall in eight seconds.
The tournament uses a blind draw method, resulting in some big matches early in the tournament, with four high school wrestlers and five junior high wrestlers fighting through the consolations to earn a runner-up finish. Garden City’s Mary Condo, had the longest road, falling in the 2nd round to eventual champion, Abby Anglley from Elgin, but came all the way back to earn the runner-up finish at 190 lbs.
In a battle of returning state champions, Westmoore’s Kyrstan Perez led 8-1, before pinning Azle’s Noah Kovach in 5:59 to claim the 105 lb. title. Perez advanced to the finals with two falls and two tech falls.
Noble’s Morgan Atherton advanced to the 115 lb. finals with two falls, a tech fall, and a 12-0 major decision. Atherton won the title with a high-scoring and entertaining 13-9 win over Eisenhower’s Christian Guerrero.
Norman’s returning state runner-up and Fargo All-American Claire Lancaster advanced to the finals with four 1st period falls and then won the 125 lb. title with a fall in 5:23 over Azle’s Mackenzi Harris.
Stillwater’s Loyalty Lockett won 135 lb. title with two falls, a 12-7 win over Henrietta, TX’s state finalist and 2X state placer, Dalilah Coyle and a 6-0 finals win over Bridge Creek’s Hannah. Coyle came back to win the challenge match for 2nd place.
Caddo’s Gage Vaughn advanced to the finals with three 1st period falls and a semifinal fall over 6A state placer Teyanna Fields. Vaughn, a 2024 state champion and 2025 state runner-up, didn’t waste any time in the finals, getting a quick takedown and winning the 140 lb. title with a fall in 0:46 over Henrietta’s Shelby Coyle.
Piedmont state champion Makaylee Cannon advanced to the finals with four falls, including three 1st period falls. Her finals opponent, Stillwater state runner-up Mya Dobrinski, advanced to the finals with three falls and a tech fall over Shawnee’s 2X state placer Claudia Thomason. Cannon broke open a close match, putting Dobrinski on her back and winning the 155 lb. title with a fall in 5:34.
Del City’s impressive Chloe Daniels rolled to the 170 lb. title with four straight falls, including a fall in the semifinals over teammate and state champion, Serinity High. In the finals, Daniels surrendered the 1st takedown, but came back with a reversal and won the title over Azle state placer Elizabeth Yelle just at the 1st period ended.
Elgin’s Abby Anglley, a 2024 state runner-up, who battled injuries most of last season, opened the tournament with a fall in 0:50 over eventual runner-up Mary Condo from Garden City, then advanced to the finals with falls in 0:43 and 1:59. After a scoreless 1st period, Anglley, needed only 24 seconds in the 2nd period to earn a reversal and pin Victoria Fuentes from Dumas in 2:24 to claim the 190 lb. title.
Lawton’s Brielle Williams advanced to the finals with four falls, including three 1st period falls. In the finals, Williams got her fourth 1st period fall, pinning previously undefeated Khylee Whalen from Dumas in 1:23 to win the 235 lb.
Winning titles for team champion Garden City were Emjay Marez, Julissa Rodriguez, and Aria Cordes. Also winning titles were Borger’s undefeated Lila Breedlove and Azle’s Zaylyn Woods.
