The East and West boys wrestling teams split duals in the 2025 All-State Wrestling Duals taking place Wednesday at Catoosa High School. The Large West team picked up a 31-26 win, while the Small East dominated on their way to a 41-17 win.
Despite a rather warm gymnasium and the absence of a number of those originally chosen for the team, approximately 1,200 fans enjoyed some outstanding wrestling and watching the wrestlers represent their high schools one more time on the mat. The final scores will be soon forgotten, but the honor of competing in the All-State duals and representing their high schools one last time are the memories that will last a life-time.
Oologah’s Garrett Salt, an original selection to the Small East All-State team, summed it up best when he stated “heck yeah!” when he was informed that he was named to the All-State team Salt went on to say that he was “super excited” to compete in the All-State duals. The special night got even better for Salt, a 3X state runner-up, as he finished his high school career with big win, scoring three takedowns to earn a 10-1 maj. dec. over Marlow state champion Kellar Kizarr.
Salt was one of nine victorious wrestlers for the Small East team as they won by a 41-17 score. The East team got off to a fast start as they started with three straight 1st period falls. Berryhill state champion Jackson Martin got it started with a fall in 1:26 over Weatherford’s Dylan Renna, followed by Blackwell 2X state champion Louden Wolfe pinning Hinton’s Brycen Rasnic in 1:14 and Checotah 4X finalist and 3X champion Colt Collett finishing the run off with the fastest fall, pinning Comanche’s Gage Jessen in 1:08.
Jace Lillie, the first All-State wrestler for OCS, gave the West their first win, recording five takedowns and a near fall to earn a 2nd period tech fall over Madill’s Colton Sandefur. A rare occurrence took place in the next match as Catoosa’s Michael Blendowski and Harrah’s Bo Manek battled to a 2-2 draw. There was little scoring until the final seconds as Blendowski got what appeared to be a winning reversal with just seconds left, but Manek escaped at the buzzer to forge the tie. Not wrestling overtime in the dual, each team was awarded two team points.
Following Salt’s win, Pawnee 2X state champion and 3X finalist Grady Mittasch got a fast start in his match, as he already led 7-0 lead before pinning Hinton’s Jagor Turner in 1:13.
