Wrestling in Oklahoma Recap: Week IV

With Thanksgiving last Thursday, Week 4 brought four “Pre-Turkey” tournaments in Warner, Edmond, Tuttle and Marlow.  The Warner Eagle Classic took place on Monday, while the other tournaments took place on Wednesday.

The Warner Eagle Classic drew 271 wrestlers, including 146 high school wrestlers (100 boys and 46 girls).

  • Paizley Romine (Wagoner) won the 120 lb. title with falls in all four of her matches.
  • Sallisaw’s 2022 state placer Hannah Lightfoot won the 190 lb. title with five falls, including four 1st period falls.
  • 2X JH state placer Coltyn Majors (Hilldale) won the 132 lb. title, with a 5-1 win over 2X state qualifier Mason Duke (Sallisaw). 
  • Wagoner’s Adam Luna won the 138 lb. title with five falls, including a fall over 2022 state qualifier, Denver Patzack (Wilburton).
  • A program that just started wrestling last year, Wilson (Henryetta) had two finalists, with Zechariah Tecumseh winning the 126 lb. title and Ethan Lee placing 2nd at 144.

The Edmond Memorial Pre-Turkey Open drew 1005 wrestlers, including 281 high school wrestlers (230 boys and 51 girls.

  • Alexus Jones (Little Axe) had three falls, including a semifinal fall over Billings state placer Carlaeona Hockert to win the 125-130 lb. title.
  • Putnam City West teammates Serenity Serrato and Ashley Linares earned falls in all of their matches wrestled to win titles at 105 and 115 lbs.
  • 135 lb. champion Taylor Ellis Hishaw (Edmond North) earned five 1st period falls, including falls over Bixby regional champion Brooke Pate and Little Axe’s 2022 state placer Ainsley Jennings. 
  • Broken Arrow’s Kadence Roop won his 2nd tournament in a row, with a UTB win over Texas state placer Thomas Pacheco (Tascosa).  Pacheco advanced to the finals with a win over Cascia Hall’s 2X finalist and 2022 state champion, Cory Velasquez.
  • Shaun Franks (Perkins-Tryon) won the 215 lb. title with 1st period falls in the semifinals and finals.
  • In a semifinal battle of state champions, Edmond North’s Ricky Thomas advanced to the finals, with a 5-3 win over 2X state champion Gunner Wilson.  Thomas earned his 3rd fall of the tournament in the finals, to claim the 285 lb. title……
