#10 Oklahoma State (12-2) vs Stanford (6-4) – Feb. 12th @2PM on ESPN+
The Cowboys got their third win in a row over a ranked opponent against SDSU on the road, and now head back home to take on an unranked Stanford team. Last year this was their season opener dual, where OK State won 29-7. This year is likely to look similar in team score, but there are some good individual challenges.
Witcraft, Voinovich, and Sheets all have higher ranked opponents where a win would give them a nice jump in the rankings. There is also big bounce back opportunities for Plott and Surber if they can get back on track with ranked wins. The team had an up and down dual against SDSU, but could show more consistency back at home and get a team win here.
Can Witcraft make it two in a row?
Witcraft successfully pulled off the upset over Tanner Jordan with a big first period, but had some gas tank issues late and wasn’t able to separate the same. He gets another ranked opponent here in Nico Provo, a true freshman who beat former starter Trevor Mastrogiovanni 9-3 at the Southern Scuffle. Provo is 2-3 in his last five matches, but has only lost to ranked wrestlers in that time.
For Witcraft, this is a chance to get another big win and improve his chances of earning a qualifying spot for the conference. I think he may struggle with Provo’s pace through the match, but if he can get going on top and build a lead early like against SDSU, he could pull off another upset.
Sheets brutal schedule continues
