Walsh Ironman Tournament Recap: Oklahoma Style (Boys)

After a long brutal day of over 14 hours of wrestling on day 1, we moved into day 2 of and the level of competition was intense. Bixby, Edmond North and Stillwater all sent a handful of wrestlers on to the 2nd day, with a shot of making the podium. Stats show that there were approximately 125 teams at the Ironman tournament and all 3 of the remaining Oklahoma schools finished within the top 20. Wyoming Seminary simply ran away with the tournament finishing well above the rest of the field after sending an insane amount of 7 wrestlers into the finals. Edmond North was able to hold their spot after day 1 and finished in 3rd place, sending them home with a team trophy! Only sending a partial squad, both Stillwater and Bixby were able to battle it out finishing 8th (Stillwater) and 17th (Bixby) overall.

Shoutout to Landyn Sommer for getting the job done for the Oklahoma Boys as he finishes as the 157lb Ironman Champion!

Day 2 started with a few rounds of consolation in the morning. Joseph Jeter and Jake Goodin (Edmond North) didn’t get the start they were hoping for as they both fall in the opening round of consolation. Oklahoma had a ton of kids battle tough on the backside, but come up just short of the podium, losing in the blood round (round of 12). Isiah Jones (Bixby) grind out a win in ultimate tie-breaker with the ride out before unfortunately losing in the blood round….
