UCO rolls over Colorado State-Pueblo

Garrett Steidley got Central Oklahoma off to a quick start and the Bronchos never let up in overpowering Colorado State-Pueblo 40-3 Saturday night.

Steidley’s first-period technical fall in the opening match at 125 pounds was one of six bonus-point wins for top-ranked UCO, which stayed perfect against the Thunderwolves (22-0) with its most lopsided rout of the series.

The Bronchos got pins from 141 Dylan Lucas and 184 Garrett Wells, while 174 Anthony DesVigne and Hvy Shawn Streck had technical falls and 165 Hunter Jump a major decision.

UCO held a 24-2 takedown advantage in moving to 11-0 with its 18th win in a row. The Bronchos, who beat Adams State 28-12 Friday night, have won 43 of their last 44 duals.

“We wrestled better tonight,” head coach Todd Steidley said. “I thought our guys came out aggressive and stayed that way. We did a good job of staying on the attack and keeping them on their heels.

“It’s never easy to go on the road, but I was proud of our guys for staying focused on what we needed to do this weekend.”

Steidley made an opening statement that this wouldn’t be CSU-Pueblo’s night, striking for a quick takedown and then adding a trio of four-point near-falls to make it 15-0 in ending it at the 2:48 mark…
