WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Guy Clevenger, Eli Kirk, Aidan Boline and Barrett Haemker captured individual titles to lead a contingent of Central Oklahoma wrestlers that competed in the Roger Denker Open Sunday.

The Bronchos sent 12 backups and one unattached entry to the all-day event hosted by Central Missouri and returned with 10 placers.

Clevenger claimed the 125-pound title, Kirk swept through the 133 bracket, Boline prevailed at 165 and Haemker won at 197 to pace UCO. The Bronchos also got runner-up finishes from 125 Garrett Steidley and 165 Bryce Dauphin.

Tucker Waitman came in third at 174, Hvy Judson Rowland placed fourth and 141 Dominik Benedetto was fifth. Adam Maki took third at 141 as an unattached entry.

“We wrestled pretty well overall,” head coach Todd Steidley said. “It was good for these guys to compete and I thought we battled hard all day for the most part. Placing 10 out of 13 guys is pretty good.”

Clevenger went 4-0 in winning his second open tournament of the season. The sophomore opened with a 29-second fall and 16-0 technical fall before claiming a 4-1 semifinal victory and then trimmed Steidley 3-2 in the title bout.

Kirk dominated on his way to the gold medal, outscoring four opponents by a combined 63-8. He started with three straight technical falls before breezing to a 12-3 major decision in the finals.

Boline started the day with a second-period pin and 17-2 technical fall before claiming two straight hard-fought decisions in making the finals. He earned the title by medical forfeit over Dauphin.

Haemker went 3-0 on the day. He followed a first-round bye with a 12-1 major decision, then claimed a 7-2 semifinal victory before cruising to a 10-3 triumph in the finals.

Steidley waltzed into the finals with two falls and a technical fall before falling to Clevenger, while Dauphin had three decisions and a fall in making the title match.

Waitman opened with a bye before dropping a wild 15-12 sudden-victory decision in the second round. The redshirt freshman rebounded with five straight consolation wins to take third, picking up four bonus wins.

Rowland had an equally impressive consolation performance after suffering a 7-5 second-round loss following an opening bye. The sophomore reeled off five consecutive wins to make the consolation finals and wasn’t able to compete in that match due to reaching the six-match limit for the day.

The Bronchos resume their dual schedule Friday at Drury before hosting Colorado State-Pueblo next Sunday at 2 p.m. on Alumni Day.
