The Moore Lady Lions make it 4 COAC Championships in a row. In the past 3 years the team points score for the team championship at COAC have been spread out with the Lady Lions on top after the dust settles.
This year the Lions had to come out and earn it. The tournament was a three team race all day Friday. Moore, Edmond North, and Norman North made it a exciting afternoon. Going into the finals Moore healed a 2 point edge over Norman North and Edmond North with the Lady Millers down by 11. Moore put 4 in the finals along with Norman North and Edmond North put 3 in the finals.
The finals didn’t disappoint and there were most likely some regional finals that we could see next month. Moore went 2-2 in there final matches, Norman North went 2-2 and Edmond went 2-1.
Hannah Lopez picked up bonus points for Moore with a pin in the finals and Taylor Ellis and Bella Williams picked up bonus points as well. For Norman North they went 2-2 in final with Ava Granados picking up a 6-5 win and Coty Sessions picking up a 7-2 win.
The tournament was ultimately won on the consolations side with the Lady Lions picking up three third place finishes.
The Lady Lions that got knocked to the consolation side showed up and wrestled great on the back side, The four girls all pinned there way back to third place finishes and won key consolation matchups against both Norman North and Edmond North opponents. This put The Lady Lions on top for good.
The growth of the program at Norman North has been awesome to watch the last few weeks. Norman North has some very tough girls and could make some noise at state. Coach Shelby Morrison and Justin Deangelis have built the program from the ground up. It is awesome to see all girls programs in COAC all starting to get full line ups and see the girls tournament continue to get stronger and stronger each year.
Hannah Lopez of the Moore Lions took home the lower weight O.W award and Shelby Kemp of Moore took home the upper weight O.W.
