CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – A pair of ranked wins for Oklahoma had the match in the Sooners’ favor after three bouts, but fifth-ranked Northern Iowa tallied four bonus point wins in the back half of the dual to claim a 26-13 victory on Saturday night inside the McLeod Center.

The No. 22 Sooners (6-4, 2-4 Big 12) were victorious at four weight classes, but ultimately were downed by the Panthers (10-1, 4-1 Big 12).

For the second consecutive night, No. 29 Antonio Lorenzo (12-6) took the mat first for the Sooners and matched up with No. 30 Trevor Anderson. Like Friday night in Ames, the senior showed patience in his approach before finishing a single-leg takedown with 30 seconds remaining in the second period. Lorenzo avoided multiple shots from the Panther lightweight in the final frame before holding on for the 3-2 decision. A spark plug at the top of the lineup, Lorenzo earned his seventh dual victory of the season.

In a battle of top-20 opponents, No. 19 Mosha Schwartz pulled off his best win of the season by knocking off two-tome NCAA qualifier, Cael Happel in the 141-pound bout. Schwartz’s scrambling ability was on full display as the senior racked up three escape points and a pair of takedowns to take the 9-7 decision over the fifth-ranked panther. The Franktown, Colo., native is seeking a fourth career trip to the NCAA Wrestling Championship in March.

At 174 pounds, No. 8 Gaven Sax bounced back from last night’s defeat with a come-from-beind win over No. 16 Jared Simma. Trailing 3-0 late in the third period with a minute of riding time to his advantage, Sax locked in a near-side cradle as time expired. After video review, a takedown was rewarded to Sax at the buzzer, giving the senior transfer a 5-2 win after Simma was hit with a misconduct point. Sax notched his fourth ranked victory of the season with the dramatic finish.

In the heavyweight bout, No. 26 Juan Mora (10-4) fought for the fourth and final win on the night for OU over Northern Iowa’s Adam Ahrendsen. Mora landed a double-leg takedown right off the opening whistle and controlled the match for three periods, ultimately cruising to a 14-5 major decision. Mora joined Lorenzo as the only Sooners to finish the Iowa road trip 2-0.

At 133 pounds, No. 22 Cleveland Belton was defeated by Julian Farber in a major decision, 12-3. OU’s No. 13 Willie MCDougald dropped a heartbreaker to No. 16 Colin Realbuto (Dec. 6-4) in the 141-pound bout.

Owen Eck became the third freshman of the season to make his dual debut at 157 pounds, suffering a 15-0 tech fall loss to No. 4 Ryder Downey.

At 165, Mannix Morgan was downed by No. 21 Jack Thomsen, 15-2. The Panthers’ defending national champion topped Eli Cordy by a 21-6 tech fall in the 184 match, while No. 14 Wyatt Voelker of UNI grabbed a 22-7 tech fall over Anders Thompson at 197.

The Sooners will return to Norman for their final home dual of the season against No. 23 Missouri on Feb. 1. Oklahoma will honor six seniors inside McCasland Fieldhouse before the first bout begins at 7 p.m. CT.
