Skiatook was the first team to win a title as the Class 5A Tournament was completed Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs won their 3rd straight Dual State title with a 42-27 win over Duncan.
With Collinsville withdrawing from the tournament, the brackets were redrawn, giving Skiatook a first round bye.
The Bulldogs advanced to the finals with a 47-27 semifinals win over Coweta while Duncan moved into the finals with a 47-27 win over Glenpool. Skiatook used falls from 4X state champions Josh Taylor and Cougar Anderson, 2020 state champion and 3X finalist Brody Gee, state champion Hunter Hall, state placers Josey Jernegan and Isaac Long and wins from Alex Johnson (win over a 3rd place state medalist) and state placer Tony Johnson to wrap up the title.
Duncan’s 78-6 first round win over Guthrie established a 5A record for most points scored in the first round (and is 2nd best for all classes).
Skiatook received a bye
