STILLWATER – Seven Cowboy wrestlers received top-eight national seeds at their respective weights ahead of the NCAA Championships, it was announced Wednesday evening.
Oklahoma State boasts a representative at every weight class except 133 pounds, making it one of 10 teams with at least nine athletes headed to Philadelphia. After sending its complete lineup to each of the last two NCAA Championships, OSU’s total of 29 qualifiers over the last three seasons is tied for most in the country. In addition, the Cowboys received their most top-eight seeds since they had nine in 2017.
The top-seeded Cowboy was Wyatt Hendrickson, who earned the No. 2 spot at heavyweight for the second time in the last three years. As a Cowboy, Hendrickson has put together a 22-0 record while beating five top-10 wrestlers and allowing just four matches to go the distance all season. He won his third career Big 12 championship over the weekend to cement the team title for OSU and will be looking to improve upon back-to-back third place finishes at nationals.
Holding an impressive 22-1 record this season, Dean Hamiti Jr. was not far behind as the third-seeded 174-pounder. Hamiti has scored bonus points in nearly 75% of his matches and suffered his only defeat of the year to Missouri’s top-seeded Keegan O’Toole in the Big 12 finals on Sunday. The senior has earned a top-five national seed every season of his career and made the podium in both 2022 and 2023.
At 184 pounds, Dustin Plott was seeded No. 4 following his fourth straight trip to the Big 12 championship. Plott was seeded third in 2024 but ran through the bracket to finish as the national runner-up. He could face a familiar path to the semifinal round, as Iowa State’s No. 13 Evan Bockman and No. 5 Bennett Berge of South Dakota State reside in the same quad of the bracket.
Troy Spratley and Tagen Jamison received the seventh seed at 125 and 141 pounds, respectively. The two redshirt sophomores have produced similar 2025 campaigns, each having compiled 20-4 records and reaching the Big 12 finals over the weekend. They’ll both be looking to secure All-America honors for the first time in their careers.
Checking in as the No. 8 seeds at 165 and 197 pounds was Cameron Amine and Luke Surber. Amine wrestled to a 16-7 record this year but has performed his best in March all throughout his career, finding the national podium three times while at Michigan. With a win, he could see No. 9 Cam Steed of Missouri in a rematch of Amine’s 2-1 victory from February. On the heels of his Big 12 runner-up finish, Surber is an impressive 22-3 this season and aiming to end his career on the podium for the first time.
Caleb Fish, the No. 12 seed at 157 pounds, will be making his fourth career appearance at the NCAA Championships but first since dropping down a weight class this summer. His 18-9 season is highlighted by victories over No. 6 Ryder Downey of Northern Iowa and Iowa State’s Paniro Johnson, the fourth seed at 149 pounds.
Rounding out the group was 149-pounder Teague Travis, who received the weight’s final seed and will be wrestling Campbell’s No. 32 Wynton Denkins in the preliminary round. Travis is the first Cowboy to compete in pigtails since No. 33 Wyatt Sheets in 2021, who went on to become the lowest-seeded wrestler in NCAA history to finish as an All-American. After missing most of the season due to injury, Travis finished fourth at the Big 12 Championships to earn an automatic bid to the national tournament.
The NCAA Championships begin Thursday, March 20, with two sessions per day through Saturday, March 22. The morning sessions will be televised on ESPNU, while the evening sessions are set to air on ESPN.
