Session One Recap: Oklahoma State

#10 Oklahoma State – 9th (10.0 Points)

Link to Brackets

125lbs: #6 Troy Spratley

  • Champ. Round 1: #6 Troy Spratley Dec. #27 Max Gallagher (6-0)

Next Match: Champ. Round 2 – #11 Cooper Flynn (Virginia Tech)

Spratley wrestled well here, getting a four point turn when he got on top. Would have been good to see a late takedown for the major but Gallagher came close to scoring one of his own in the third period. Flynn won his first match 2-1, and is a highly defensive wrestler. He’s accomplished in freestyle and will be a good test of Spratley’s offense.

133lbs: #1 Daton Fix

  • Champ. Round 1: #1 Daton Fix Tech #33 Dyson Dunham (VMI) (17-1 7:00)

Next Match: Champ. Round 2 – #16 Nic Bouzakis (Ohio State)

Daton came out and did Daton things with a tech fall here. His next match is a dangerous one, as Bouzakis is known for big moves and pinning. Fix is good at avoiding too many upper body ties, but could be looking for a feet to back himself with his inside trip.

141lbs: #10 Tagen Jamison

  • Champ. Round 1: #23 Danny Fongaro (IND) Dec. #10 Tagen Jamison (9-8)

Next Match: Cons. Round 1 – #7 Cael Happel (Northern Iowa)

Jamison struggled surprisingly in this match, giving up the first takedown. Jamison looked like he was going to battle back as he scored two takedowns of his own, including one late for a 7-4 lead. Unfortunately a surprising 2nd period rideout slowed Jamison…
