Session IV (Semis/Blood Round): Oklahoma State

#10 Oklahoma State – 8th (55.0 Points)

The Cowboys rebounded well and put one more on the podium with Olejnik getting an upset. Spratley suffered a tough loss but Olejnik improved upon his finish from last year already and they have two in the finals. It’s a tight team race and the Cowboys aren’t out of it, but it’ll take some big moves tomorrow.

125lbs: #6 Troy Spratley – DNP

  • Champ. Round 1: #6 Troy Spratley Dec. #27 Max Gallagher (6-0)
  • Champ. Round 2: #6 Troy Spratley Dec. #11 Cooper Flynn (VT) (8-1)
  • Quarterfinals: #3 Drake Ayala (IOWA) Dec. #6 Troy Spratley (SV 4-1)
  • Bloodround: #23 Tanner Jordan (SDSU) Dec. #6 Troy Spratley (9-3)

I thought Spratley had a great matchup for the bloodround with how he won the last match against Jordan but it flipped again in this one. Spratley actually scored the first takedown and was accumulating over a minute of riding time but Jordan scored a reversal and brought riding time down. In the second period Jordan took bottom and escaped much quicker and Spratley did not seem as aggressive. The third period Spratley took neutral and came close, but Jordan ended up scoring on the edge with a minute left. Spratley worked hard from bottom and was pushing for a reversal of his own, but Jordan is good from top and actually scored nearfall to clinch it. Spratley finishes his first NCAA tournament with a very respectable bloodround finish and looks like he’ll be a contender throughout his career.

133lbs: #1 Daton Fix

  • Champ. Round 1: #1 Daton Fix Tech #33 Dyson Dunham (VMI) (17-1 7:00)
  • Champ. Round 2: #1 Daton Fix Dec. #16 Nic Bouzakis (OHST) (5-4)
  • Quarterfinals#1 Daton Fix Dec. #8 Evan Frost (ISU) (TB 2-1)
  • Semifinals#1 Daton Fix Dec. #5 Dylan Ragusin (MICH) (TB 3-2)

Next Match: Finals – #6 Vito Arujau (Cornell)

Fix won another controversial nail biter again in rideouts. He and Ragusin had some good scrambles but they went into overtime tied at 1-1. Then in rideouts Fix was on top and initially had to give up a second stall call for a point plus a late escape. They went to review though and wiped away the stall call, making it 2-1 Fix. Ragusin tried to rideout as well, but a locked hands call forced…
