OU Weekend Recap

After a great win over ranked West Virginia, OU had some momentum on a road trip against two ranked opponents. Unfortunately they came up short, only winning four matches in each dual and giving up bonus points in six matches altogether. They had three wrestlers go 2-0 on the weekend while six wrestlers were unable to get a win. With the two losses OU is now 1-3 against conference opponents and 7-5 overall.

There were bright spots however, with multiple wrestlers getting big upsets. Young wrestlers also impressed, as John Wiley and Tate Picklo had ranked wins. While there could be a lineup question now at 157 with Jared Hill going 0-2, Picklo and Moore both appear to have solidified their spots at 174 and 184 respectively. With another big conference dual against Missouri coming up, here are some takeaways.

John Wiley

When Wiley first committed to college he projected more as a 157/165, and opened the season at 157 at the Michigan State Open. However since then he has dropped to 149 and found much more success. He is 4-4 at the weight, but now has a win over #6 Paniro Johnson, a true freshman with wins over Austin Gomez and Max Murin. Against Johnson he managed to score the last takedown after catching an ankle, and kept him down for the win.
