OSU Weekend Recap

In their trip to the state of Iowa, the Cowboys come back with some solid results. After winning six duals in a row, OK State’s streak did end with a loss to #3 Iowa State. That was after beating #13 Northern Iowa in a close dual. OSU is now 5-1 in conference duals and 9-2 overall.

There were some ups and downs, as the Cowboys didn’t put out a full lineup either night. Trevor Mastrogiovanni is still out, but expected to be back. Wittlake wasn’t available for either dual, a surprising result after looking great last week. Konner Doucet also didn’t wrestle against Iowa State. No word on any apparent injuries so time will tell if it was just load management or something more.

There were a handful of upsets, both for and against OK State. Carter Young had one of the best matches of his career in a big win. Wyatt Sheets was also the hero of the dual against UNI with a massive pin.

Overall the two duals were very solid for OSU despite going 1-1. Many of their young wrestlers are starting to show progression with either wins or very close matches. There are some interesting lineup questions with all the recent changes, but those are likely to be answered in the coming days. With a big Bout at the Ballpark coming up, here are some takeaways from the two conference duals.

Blankenship struggles

With the absence of Trevor Mastrogiovanni there was a chance for true freshman Blankenship to step up and impress in the lineup. Unfortunately he struggled in all of his dual starts, going 0-4. I believe he is now out of starts to keep his redshirt.
