When Johnson committed to OU, he trained at the M2 Training Center with now Oklahoma State head coach David Taylor.

Johnson is ranked in the top 50 of the 2025 recruiting class and projects as a college 197. He is a three-time Pennsylvania state finalist and was a state champion in 2023 at 215. He has a 111-4 overall record in high school.
