Oklahoma high school wrestlers turned in outstanding performances competing in three collegiate tournaments over the weekend with Kody Routledge, Devon Miller and Isaiah Jones winning tournament titles, Bella Williams earning a runner-up finish, Ishmael Guerrero and Eric Casula placing 3rd and Jake Goodin placing 6th.
Led by tournament champions Kody Routledge and Devon Miller, six Edmond North wrestlers competed in the Younes Hospitality Open in Kearney, Nebraska.
Routledge, an OSU signee, competing in the Elite Division, had all bonus point victories on his way to the 165 lbs title. Routledge opened with a 14-3 maj. dec. win, followed by a 22-5 tech fall, 0:48 second fall in the semifinals and a 16-6 maj. dec. win in the finals over Nebraska-Kearney’s Trenton Munoz. Munoz was a 2022 NAIA national runner-up for Hastings College.
Miller opened with a 17-0 tech fall win and recorded six wins on the day to take the 125 lb. Amateur (collegiate freshmen and sophomores) title. Competing in a 54 man bracket, Miller won the title with a 7-3 finals win over Western Wyoming’s Sefton Douglass.
Competing in a bracket with 66 wrestlers, Edmond North’s Bella Williams earned a runner-up finish at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, MO. Williams picked up five wins on the day, including three 10-0 tech fall wins and a 13-4 semifinal win over University of Iowa’s Emily Frost. Frost won 23 matches last year and was nationally ranked throughout the year.
Bixby junior Isaiah Jones captured the 125 lb. amateur title at the Kaufman Brand Bayly UCM Open by going 4-0 with two falls including a fall in just 0:22 in the finals against Maryville’s Diego Barajas.
Stillwater’s Ishmael Guerrero won four matches, including two 16-0 tech fall wins to place 3rd at 157 lbs. in the Elite Division of the tournament. Guerrero’s only loss was to 2022 DII All-American John Ridle from Central Missouri. Ridle placed 4th at the 2022 DII national tournament and ended the season with a 27-5 record.
Stillwater junior Eric Casula had two tech falls out of his four wins to earn a 3rd place finish in the 125 lb. Amateur Division at the Kaufman Brand Open. Casula’s only loss was a 5-1 semifinal loss to Bixby’s Isaiah Jones.
All of the wrestlers competing in the tournaments, competed unattached.
