The Oklahoma State University (OSU) Cowgirls officially received club status earlier this year and on Friday, November 1, they competed in their first official event as a club team traveling to the Falcon Open hosted by Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. On a day that could be summed up nicely with the word “triumphant”, eleven Cowgirls competed, picking up several wins as a team, and even having one wrestler win a tournament championship.
Kaivlani Garcia competed for OSU in the 160 pound weight class and thoroughly dominated her way to the first official individual tournament championship for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. After receiving a first round bye, Garcia quickly got to work, earning a tech fall victory to start her day. Garcia followed this up with a first minute pinfall victory in the quarterfinal before scoring another tech fall in the semi finals. Garcia made quick work of her finals opponent, as well, scoring a pinfall victory in just 48 seconds to claim the championship.
