Oklahoma State Cowboys: NCAA Day I

After the first day of NCAA’s the Cowboys are tied at #17 in the team scores with Illinois and Stanford. OSU has seven wrestlers still alive, with two in the quarters. Injuries were a big hit, as both Witcraft and Young were hit hard. Fix and Plott had good performances, and have the matchups to continue that into the semis. It’s still early, but OK State is going to need their big guns to rack up some wins, upsets, and bonus points to climb into the top ten. Note: I used the seeds instead of rankings for this one.

125lbs: (31) Reece Witcraft (0-2)

  • 1st Round: (2) Patrick Glory, Princeton Fall Reece Witcraft (0:32)
  • Consolations: (18) Ryan Miller, Penn Inj. Def. Reece Witcraft (4:26)

After a great Big 12 tournament, the 31 seed was almost insulting for Witcraft. He took on Pat Glory and got put on his back early in a scramble. On the backside Witcraft gave up a first period takedown, but had two escapes to make it 2-2 in the second period. Unfortunately Witcraft had to go into concussion protocol, tried to come back, but had to medically default in his first NCAA tournament.

133lbs: (2) Daton Fix (2-0)

  • 1st Round: Daton Fix Fall. (31) Jack Maida, American (2:16)
  • 2nd Round: Daton Fix Dec. (15) Kyle Biscoglia, Northern Iowa (8-4)
