Oklahoma Sooners: NCAA Day I

Oklahoma – 5.5 Points

After the first day of NCAA’s the Sooners have five wrestlers still alive, all in the consolations. With 5.5 points the team is in a rough spot at #31 in the team scores. It’s still early, but the Sooners are going to need some of their consolation wrestlers to continue to pull off upsets and get some potential bonus if they want to push into the top 20. Note: I used the seeds instead of rankings for this one.

125lbs: (25) Joey Prata (0-2)

  • 1st Round: (8) Anthony Noto, Lock Haven Dec. Joey Prata (5-2)
  • Consolations: (24) Nick Babin, Columbia Dec. Joey Prata (2-0)

Prata had a tough draw, but going 0-2 was still surprising for the 7th year senior. After a solid Big 12’s I thought he had a chance to make a run on the backside. In both matches Prata struggled both on bottom and getting to his offense in neutral. After two years at OU Prata had a 39-18 record for the team and was a two time qualifier who made the bloodround in 2021.

133lbs: (24) Wyatt Henson (1-1)

  • 1st Round: (9) Micky Phillippi, Pitt Dec. Wyatt Henson (5-2)
  • Consolations: Wyatt Henson Dec. (25) Kurt Phipps, Bucknell (7-2)
