Two Oklahoma girls wrestling teams made the trek up to Kansas City, Mo. to compete with some of the best wrestlers in the Midwest last Saturday at North Kansas City High School.
GroWrestling.com’s Joe Williamson hosted the inaugural Central Cup tournament that featured eight girls dual teams from Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

Team Oklahoma Blue had a strong showing at the tournament, going 3-1 and taking third place. Team Oklahoma Red finished eighth and went 0-4.
In the pool bracket, the team went 2-1 defeating Missouri Blue 45-20 and MOWEST 38-37, but fell to Red Venom 34-33 to advance to the third-place match against Team Kansas. Oklahoma Blue won that one 37-29.
Jayden Roller (103), Hannah Lopez (108) and Bella Williams (123) finished undefeated for Oklahoma Blue at 4-0. Symphony Veloz (172), Jaylyn Lazzedrini (87), Kaylee Davis (148) and Millie Azlin (160) each finished 3-1.
Against Team Kansas, Oklahoma Blue fell in the opening match and Sasha Williams (92) won by forfeit to up 5-4. Blue dropped the next match to go down 9-5, but it rebounded with Roller taking down Jaidyn Alvarado in a 10-0 tech fall win.
Lopez, of Moore High School, then put the team up 14-9 with a pin over Stella Segura.
“I feel like I wrestled pretty good,” Lopez said. “I didn’t start off that great but I came back and kept it together. On top, I I went to a high gut and a chicken wing. In neutral, I went to ankle picks and high crotches.”
