The Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars got their 2024-2025 season started with a trip to the Falcon Open hosted by Friends University in Wichita, Kansas on Friday, November 1. The Stars enter this season ranked number 14 as a team in the first National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) poll of the year. OCU also enters this season with 6 wrestlers ranked in the top 20 of the initial NAIA individual polls. The Stars finished the Falcon Open with the 7th most team points, however with this being an open tournament, some schools had significantly more entrants than others, so the team score is a bit slanted as a result.

NAIA’s 9th ranked wrestler at 103 pounds, Sofia Abramson, competed very well for the Stars. Abramson started her tournament off strongly, racking up back to back tech fall victories before falling to the eventual tournament champion in the third round. Abramson immediately got back to work in the consolation rounds, getting victories by decision and tech fall in consecutive matches before having her tournament ended in the consi semi finals. Abramson may not have gotten the final result she was looking for, but she still got her season off to a strong start going 4-2 with 3 bonus point victories on the day.

Returning NAIA All American, Avery Ashley, secured her role as a leader for the Stars in the 2024-2025 season by bonus pointing her way to the championship in the 110 pound weight class. Ashley opened her day with three straight tech falls to make the finals , where she finished the day quickly with a 42 second pinfall to capture the title.
