Oklahoma 4A State Wrestling Recap

Pushing ten into the championship finals and crowning four champions, Tuttle rolled to their 15th straight Class 4A state championship outscoring 2nd place Cascia Hall by over 90 points. Winning titles for Tuttle were Beau Hickman, Ethan Teague, Tucker Waitman and Sam Schmidt. Cascia Hall crowned three champions with TreShaun Tecson, Gerald Harris III and Luke Eschenheimer all winning titles to earn the 2nd place trophy with Catoosa finishing in 3rd with champions Corban Zugelder and Gunner Wilson.

The finals were intense and an example of the amazing wrestling is that two wrestlers going for their third state titles were denied in the finals. The 120 lb. bracket included 2X state champion Braden Potts from Tuttle, Cascia Hall state champion Gerald Harris III and Chickasha state champion Dylan Bratt. Harris defeated Bratt 8-2 in the semifinals to advance to meet Potts in the finals. After a scoreless first period, Potts rode Harris the entire 2nd period, but midway through the 3rd period, Harris tilted Potts for a 3 point near-fall to take the 3-1 win and claim his second state title in his sophomore year.

At 165 lbs., it was Tuttle’s turn to beat a 2X champion as 2022 state champion Tucker Waitman took on Heritage Hall 2X state champion EJ Beloncik. Waitman was able to avenge a loss to Beloncik in the regional finals getting the winning takedown with just 10 seconds left on the clock to take the 6-4 win and earn his 2nd state title…
