OCU and Carl Albert State College Send Women’s Teams to Iowa

Oklahoma City University and Carl Albert State College each sent their women’s wrestling teams to Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, February 3 to compete in the Grand View Open, hosted by Grand View University. The NAIA school hosted this massive women’s tournament that saw over 400 participants from colleges across the country and was broken up into two brackets per weight. Both the Oklahoma City Stars and the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings had participants in both the “gold” and “silver” brackets.

Oklahoma City University (OCU) was led on the day by Natalia Posada’s championship in the 136 pound silver bracket. The true freshman was dominant on the day, picking up a first round pinfall and three straight technical falls to make the finals. Posada won the finals match after receiving a forfeit from fellow Star Devin Jansing. Jansing reached the finals with a first period pinfall and three tightly contested decision victories. 

Corin Lowe placed third for the Stars in the silver 155 bracket after going 5-1 on the day with two pinfalls and two tech falls. Rayleigh Fisher was the final placer for the Stars, finishing her day in sixth place in the silver 170 pound bracket. 

The Stars that represented OCU in the gold brackets were Bryce White who went 1-2 in the gold 130 pound bracket, Destiny Campbell (0-2 gold 130), Makayla Munoz (2-2 gold 143), and Ryann Rumsey (1-2 gold 191). The other Stars in the silver brackets were Nadia Alejandres (2-2 silver 109), Wachipi Hamelryck (0-2 silver 123), Morgan Mackey (3-2 silver 136), and Maria Sifuentes (1-2 silver 155).

Lexi Miller led the Lady Vikings of Carl Albert State College (CASC) by winning the gold 109 pound bracket in dominating fashion. Miller got her day started off with a bang by earning a :45 second pinfall in the opening round.
