Led by upset wins by Kristen DeLaRosa and Emily Beckley, Broken Arrow turned in another extremely impressive performance to win the ever-growing Wrestle Like a Girl Cache Invitational, while Little Axe, Claremore, Douglass, and Tahlequah also won team titles in a busy weekend of wrestling.

The Broken Arrow girls pushed eight wrestlers into the finals, claiming five individual champions to win the Wrestle Like A Girl Cache Invitational by 76 points over Lubbock Cooper, TX, with short-handed teams from Edmond North and Bixby placing 3rd and 4th. The massive tournament, which had 46 teams and 600 competitors in the junior high and high school divisions has quickly become the premier December event for girls wrestling in Oklahoma.

Broken Arrow’s Kristen DeLaRosa provided the big shocker of the tournament, already leading 4-0, when she pinned 3X state champion Jadyn Roller from Bixby in 3:45 to claim the 115 lb. title. Just a few matches later, Emily Beckley won the 135 lb. title with a 4-2 win over Blanchard’s Lynn Horn. Horn, a 2X state runner-up, was the 2023 Fargo national champion and 2024 Fargo runner-up.

Just two examples of the high-level competition in the blind-draw tournament saw a crazy first round match-up between Roller and Fargo All-American and 5A state champion Addison Morse. Roller won by a 7-0 score. At 135 lbs., Horn defeated Caddo’s Gage Vaughn by a 3-2 score in the quarterfinals. Vaughn was an undefeated state champion last year.

Others winning titles for Broken Arrow were, Brooklyn Church, Jaylyn Lazzerini, and Riley Roblyer. Alina Peralt, Jordyn Todhunter, and Tiffany Breshears added runner-up finishes with Sophie Donaho placing 4th and Sonora Reece placing 5th.

El Reno freshman Remy Whitney had three falls and a 19-4 tech fall win in the finals over Broken Arrow state placer Alina Peralta to claim the 100 lb. title. Hinton state champion Dru Turner went 5-0 with four falls and a 16-0 tech fall win in the finals over Cache state placer Shiann Famero to win the 125 lb. title.

Edmond North’s Clover Williams won the 140 lb. title with three falls and a 7-1 win over Stilwell state runner-up Adrianna Chronister and a 12-1 major decision win in the finals over 2X state placer and 2023 runner-up Mak Gregg from Bixby.

Class 5A state champion Little Axe, crowned six champions to easily win the Tinker Coe Memorial Tournament in Henryetta. Winning titles were Kyra Carr, Aubrie Davis, Ainsley Jennings, Serenity West, Amelia Earhart, and state champion Chloe Vawter.

Claremore had eight placers including champions Cambry Suskey, Malorie Shaw, and Paige Webster to win the Ray Nunneley Memorial Tournament by 36 points over Mannford. Webster, a 4th place state medalist last year, won her title with a fall over state runner-up Harmoni Callins from McLain in the finals.

Rian Martin and J’niya Mays-Morrison won individual titles to lead Douglass to the team title at the 89er City Showdown in Lexington. Douglass got runner-up finishes from Ayanna Guest, Asia’nea Robinson, and Myciaha Brown, with Daiseana Lasley and Anaisha Crawford placing 3rd and Maryah McDonald adding a 4th place finish.

Tahlequah won their own tournament, finishing 52 points ahead of 2nd place Pryor. Tahlequah had seven placers with Rosha Maxwell and Jordan Bread winning titles, Elli Hendrix, Hailey Whitley, and Addison Bread finishing 2nd, and Charlee Peters and Melissa Balderas adding 3rd place finishes.
