Late Start Leads to Early Exit: UCO Wrestlers’ Day at Viking Open

POTEAU, Okla. (Nov. 11) – Time constraints and a late start forced an early end to Central Oklahoma’s participation in the Viking Open Saturday.

The defending national champion Bronchos sent 17 individuals to the all-day tournament hosted by Carl Albert State College, which was scheduled for a 9 a.m. start but didn’t begin until nearly 11. Nine hours later, tournament officials opted to halt the action.

Jaxon Randall (165 pounds) and Garrett Wells (184) had both advanced to the finals, while 10 others were still alive in the consolation rounds when the tournament was stopped.

“It was a long day,” head coach Todd Steidley said. “They had a lot of entries and it was slow going. Our younger guys got some good matches in and it’s unfortunate we couldn’t finish, but it was just taking too long.”

Randall and Wells both rolled into the finals, with the two redshirt freshmen each winning three matches…
