LaDarion Lockett Wins U17 World Title

Stillwater’s LaDarion(Dee) Lockett competed at the U17 World Championships this week in Istanbul, Turkey at 71 KG.

His tournament started on Saturday and he blasted his way to the finals with three 10-0 techs and won 8-0 win. In the semifinals, he finished off his Indian opponent 10-0 early in the first period.

This set up a finals matchup with Seyedabolfazl Hosseini of Iran, the 2023 Asian U17 champion. The first period was a little slower pace with both wrestlers seeming to get a feel for each other before pressing much action. Hosseini picked up one shot clock point, which was ultimately the only point scored on Dee in the tournament. In the second, Dee picked picked up two takedowns and used some very stingy defense to stave off any attacks from Hosseini and won the match 4-1 to become a World Champion.

We spoke with him after making the World Team. You can check it out on our Rokfin page.
