After a late audible from the tournament staff due to some strange rules for California. Bixby swaps places with Clovis to wrestle in the silver pool in the afternoon.
Opening round in the silver pool, Bixby faces off against Lake Highland Prep of Florida giving us a #12 vs #13 teams in the country.
Things got exciting right away with the dual starting at 106. Crawford goes back and forth with lots of points and the match goes to OT. Unfortunately Crawford takes a bad shot and Robinson (LH) gets the go-behind. Jones gets the fall at 126.
At 132 Walker runs into a really tough nationally ranked opponent. Pardon (LH) gets the takedown and escape to edge Walker 3-0. Roller has been just dominating his way through the tournament as he picks up another 1st period fall. That makes 4 for 4 all pins for Roller.
At 150 and 157 Hausler and Guerrero grind out some nice wins and a forfeit at 165 for Bixby ties up the team score 24-24 going into the last couple of matches. Giddens-Buttram bumps up to 175 and loses a close one with the rideout in OT, score 10-9.
Unfortunately Lake Highland Prep went on a run in the upper-weights and takes the dual, final dual score 34-24.
Bixby dropped down to face another really tough historic program out of California- Buchanan. Buchanan got off to an early lead in the lower weights. Jones wrestled a really tough match against Besmer (Buchanan) but unfortunately loses a 6-5 match in UTB. I was pretty impressed with the way Jones wrestled this tournament.
Roller unfortunately lost his unbeaten streak as he falls to Toscano, score 5-3. At 150 Hausler gets another fall for the day and 157 Guerrero gets the 6-0 win.
The middle weights for Bixby are solid and all wrestled really well this weekend. At 285 Ritter grinds out a 4-2 win to finish on top for the day, but the stacked roster of Buchanan was too much for Bixby to keep up with, final score 47-15 Buchanan. Bixby finished the tournament 1 – 4 but in my opinion they wrestled well and were competitive in almost every dual they wrestled…
