Day 2 of the Hall of Fame Dual classic started off with the Bronze and Copper brackets in the morning session. After going 1-2 with a win over Arlington Martin of Texas, Stillwater wrestled in the bronze bracket against St. Peter’s Prep from New Jersey.
The dual started at 285 and St Peter’s got off to an early lead, but Thomas at 113 was able to get things going for Stillwater with a 6-3 win over Borrometi. At 126 Stockton used his build and strength to his advantage and ran down his opponent to get a quick fall in the 1st period. Burns got himself a nice win at 144 with a tough ride to get a 2-0 win.
Sommer had an impressive win that went to double OT and Sommer locked up a cradle and got the fall and the Stillwater bench and fans got wild! Another fall at 165 from the Stillwater veteran’s and Stillwater was back in the dual with a lead 30-29 going into the final matches. 175 another exciting match as the young freshman Petree goes into OT. Petree tried to go upper body and just gets out-powered, but I thought he wrestled really well.
Exciting future ahead for him in Stillwater. The dual came down to the final match at 215 and Brown had to get a pin to secure the win for the pioneers. Brown gave it everything he had, but unfortunately wasn’t able to get the fall and the final dual score is 35-33 St. Peter’s Prep. There were some great matches from Stillwater and this was definitely the most exciting dual Stillwater had during the tournament. The next round Stillwater dropped down to face off against Joliet Catholic from Illinois who is a young team but boy could they wrestle.
Thomas gets the major-decision. Allen had himself a much better day 2 as he picked up another 1st period fall. McComas bumps up to 138 and gets a major-decision as well. Sommer grinds out another win to finish the tournament 5-0 and a forfeit for Lockett at 165. Joliet Catholic took advantage of some tough lower weights and upper weights and gets the win over Stillwater, final score 46-22…
