Fresh Faces: Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State might have seven new faces in their lineup of ten this year according to Oklahoma State Assistant Wrestling Coach Chris Perry. Perry (and newly promoted assistant coach Tyler Caldwell) spoke Cowboy wrestling at an OSU Alumni event at Pollard Farms in Waukomis on Thursday night and chatted with Owrestle after. In addition to announcing that $7 million of $25 million has been raised for the new wrestling facility.

Here are some highlights we’ll go over:

  • Turnover
  • Goals
  • NIL
  • 157
  • Late Season Injuries
  • Catching Up With Penn State
  • Culture
  • Daton Fix Weight

Let’s dive into each topic:

Turnover

“We gotta get the best guys, and turnover is part of it. These guys are proven, some have been in college, like Issac Olejnik, who has already been an All-American, so that helps, and we have some top recruits in the country. It adds a lot of excitement and wrestling experience to the lineup”

Goals

“Our goal right now is to win the Big 12 and get in the top three of four and improve from last year. We are a young team, even though they have a lot of experience, we might have five freshmen starting for us. We do have guys like Fix and Plott and Surber that will help these guys out, but these freshmen are a different breed. They are not playing around, and we expect them to do some good things. This new group man, people will see, they are for real.”

NIL

“People want to say we (Oklahoma State) don’t have the money, we do, we just got to get people to buy in and support the program. The only two programs that can compete with us, history wise, are Penn State and Iowa. Those guys have money they are throwing out for NIL deals, and if you believe the rumors, making deals for like $150,000….
