In the championship match, Collinsville’s Cole Brooks, a two-time state champion, took on Sam Ewing, a three-time state champion in Missouri.
The Collinsville senior got a takedown in the first period and a nearfall from the top position in the second period to earn a 5-0 victory over Ewing to take first place at Staley High School.
While Brooks acknowledged his bout with Ewing was a great win, the senior said he has high expectations for himself.
“I want to go about the state champion level, I want to be a national champion level,” Brooks said. “I just go out there and wrestle. If I think too much, I don’t wrestle well. This is my first time back in a while, so I was shaking off the rust.”
