Should Owrestle create a pick’em for individual state?
Now that the dust has settled on another great weekend of wrestling at the 2024 dual state tournament. I thought it would be interesting to do a little March Madness style pick-em with the guys at OWrestle to add a little friendly competition to our media coverage. Myself, Mark Kirk and Seth Duckworth all filled out brackets last week for each class and we scored it as follows: 1 point for each correct pick in the quarters and semi’s and 2 points for the finals. So, 8 points total for each bracket, for a total of 32 max points.
Without much surprise, Seth took the crown on the 1st annual pick-em scoring a whopping 29 points, followed by Mark with 28 and myself with 26. Looks like being around the block for a bit proved to be the advantage. Of course, the new guy finishes in last place lol. 6A and 4A really didn’t have many surprises as favorites on paper won every round for the most part. We all knew that 3A was going to be a toss up between Marlow and Blackwell, and Marlow got the job done. 5A was the biggest question mark, as all 3 of us picked a different winner. Mark hit it on the head, with Elgin taking home the title in back-to-back years.
I proposed the idea of getting fans involved in a pick-em as well, so maybe next year we can open it up for fan submissions to see who is the wrestling guru in Oklahoma. Would love to hear your ideas on how best to score it. We got a ton of great coverage from Dual state this past weekend, from over 60+ interviews, written recaps for each class, and Mark Kirk’s wild breakdown of stats from over the years. Be sure to check it all out! Again, congratulations to every team that qualified and congrats to the 4 champions for taking home the dual state title. Looking forward to regionals and state coming up quick!
