Demas to Compete in U23 Worlds This Weekend

BELGRADE — OU Wrestling All-American Dom Demas is set to represent the United States at the U23 World Championships this weekend in Belgrade, Serbia. He is slated to wrestle at 65 kg in the men’s freestyle bracket, earning his spot at the championship by winning the UWW U23 bracket at U23 Nationals in May.

At Nationals, Demas outscored opponents 43-10 en route to the title, defeating Lawrence Saenz via 10-0 tech fall in the final.

The two-time All-American and reigning 141-pound Big 12 champion brings the most World Team experience of any of the other Americans making the trip to Belgrade. It’s the fifth time he has been an age-group World Team member. He made the Cadet World team twice in 2014 and 2015 and earned a spot on the Junior Greco-Roman World team 2017 and the Junior World freestyle team in 2018.

He was one of only two Big 12 wrestlers who earned a spot on the team alongside Brock Mauller of Missouri.

Qualification rounds for 65 kg men’s freestyle begin at 10:30 am local time (4:30 am CT) with the semifinals later that day at 4:45 pm local time (10:45 am CT) on Friday, November 5. The finals will be the next day at 6:00 pm local time (12:00 pm CT).
