Dalton Duffield Falls in Final X Best of Three

Westmoore grad and current Army WCAP wrestler Dalton Duffield came into USA Wrestling’s Final X event on Saturday with a shot at the 55 KG Greco World team spot. Duffield was in a best-of-three series with Brady Koontz, who beat Dalton in the finals of the US Open.

Duffield opened with a dominant win in the first match of the series. He received a passivity point and got a five-point throw to go up six before a turn put him up 8-0 and gave him a tech in the first period. In the second match of the series, Koontz evened things up using a passivity point, a turn, and an escape to beat Duffield 4-1 and set up a winner take all third and final match for the series.

In the final match, Koontz got up 3-0 early before Dalton scored three unanswered points to take a 3-3 lead on criteria. With about one minute left Koontz hit a four-point move to take a 7-3 lead. Dalton was unable to score and Koontz took the match.

Daton Fix was also competing here for a true third spot on the National Team at 61 KG. He dominated Austin Desanto 9-0 to get that final spot.

Not originally from Oklahoma, but with some ties to Oklahoma State, Alex Dieringer also competed for a true third spot at 79 KG and defeated David McFadden on criteria.
