DUAL STATE HISTORY

Dual State started in 1989, and all of the Class 6A qualifiers have made numerous trips to the Dual State Tournament.  Broken Arrow leads the way as this is their 32nd trip and 17th straight year to qualify for Dual State.  Both of those numbers lead all Class 6A in the 36 year history of Dual State.  This is Edmond North’s 17 time to qualify for Dual State and they are right behind Broken Arrow in qualifying 16 straight years.

Sand Springs, a regular Dual State qualifier, is making their 22nd trip, while Bixby is making their 19th Dual State appearance.  This is Yukon’s 15th time to qualify for Dual State and trip number 12 for Stillwater.

Dual State is a good indicator of the growth of Deer Creek and Piedmont.  Deer Creek has the distinction of being the only school to qualify for Dual State in all four classes.  This is Deer Creek 16th trip to Dual State, starting in 1989, when they qualified in what is now Class 3A.  Piedmont is right behind, qualifying in three classes.  They are making their 11th Dual State appearance, with their first time to qualify coming in 2013, when they were in Class 4A.

Broken Arrow also leads all 6A schools in Dual State titles and appearances in the finals.  The Tigers have won nine Dual State titles and been in the finals 15 times. Stillwater has been in the finals four times, winning three titles, including winning the last two titles.

Edmond North won a Dual State title in 2013 and was runner-up to Stillwater last year.  Sand Springs was a runner-up in 2016 before winning the title in 2017.  Bixby has three runner-up finishes, including back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2022.  Deer Creek finished as runner-up in 1990 (Class 2A) and 2010 (Class 5A), while Piedmont finished as runner-up in 2019 (Class 5A).

Listed below is a summary of the Dual State appearances by this year’s Dual State Qualifiers.  I have compiled a Dual State Record Book and happy to share it with anyone who would like a copy.  Please email me at [email protected] if you would like a copy.
