DUAL STATE HISTORY
Dual State started in 1989 with Carl Albert, Coweta, and Lawton Mac all qualifying in what is now Class 5A and Grove qualifying in what is now Class 4A for that first event. Led by Lawton Mac, those four schools lead the way in the number of appearances by this year’s district champions.
Lawton Mac is making their 24th Dual State appearance, which leads all current Class 5A schools for most tournament appearances. Coweta is close behind as this is their 23rd appearance at Dual State. Carl Albert is making their 13th appearance, while Grove, which last qualified in 2019, is making their 11th appearance.
Chickasha, Claremore, and Elgin are making their 7th appearance at Dual State. Elgin first qualified in 2017 and they are on a streak of qualifying the past five years. Chickasha was a 4A Dual State qualifier last year while Claremore is making their first appearance since 2011. Guthrie is making their 5th appearance, including three trips in the past four years
Lawton Mac has made an impressive 12 trips to the Dual State finals, winning titles in 1990, 2017 and 2018. Claremore has been in the finals three times, winning back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010. Carl Albert also had back-to-back titles, winning in 1991 and 1992.
Coweta has been in the finals four times, winning the 2016 Dual State title. Elgin is the defending champion, with a win over Coweta in last year’s finals. In 2022, Guthrie earned a Dual State runner-up finish, falling to 6X Dual State champion, Collinsville in the finals.
